Faceless
Who are you?
I'm Rona Kim.
What's your ethnicity?
I am Cambodian.
What do you do for a living?
I also break dance and play kendama. I dance to show who I am through my movement and inspire others. I play kendama on my spare time to get my mind off of things and allowing me to experience something new.
How do you train and prepare for any kind of events?
I, physically, train by actually conditioning myself like an athlete, but break dancers are not athletes. They are dancers, who react to music that best fit their personality and concept. Mentality wise, I sit and stare at my wall, while listening to break dance music and comes up with ways of how I would react is the beat. Even at times when I'm injured, I train my mind my repeating my mentality training process. Otherwise, I also play the kendama as a way to collecting thoughts in breaking and piecing them together into one set.
What's your inspiration and motivation in break dancing?
My inspiration is Moon Patrol Crew, along with other crews who build the Portland scene and spreading the culture. My motivation is my friends and crew mates. Seeing my crew mates excelling , I tend to be inspired by that and push myself other. When I see my friends improving at a fast pace, I get motivated and force myself to train twice as hard.
How do you see Break dancing?
I see break dancing as a culture and dance where individuals fight each other without physical contact. Break dancing is another side of me that allows me to express myself the way I want to express myself.. The culture is another way exploring new concept and philosophy of the dance itself.
